This workshop recognises that a large portionof people on the autism spectrum have highanxiety levels.

Presenters will discuss what a person with anxiety looks like at different levels, and what support staff can do when an individual is at these different levels. The workshop will also look at how we can get a person to identify that they are anxious and what and how to teach them to reduce their anxiety.

Topics include:

• What to do when a person is escalating at each level;

• How to develop self-identification skills;

• What to teach an individual to manage their anxiety;

• How to teach a person to calm; and

• Developing a 5-Point Plan to communicate.

It is recommended that participants who attend this workshop also attend ‘Positive Behaviour Planning for people on the autism spectrum’.
