Event description

Description

50,000 Australians will be diagnosed with a rare form of cancer this year. 25,000 will be dead within five years. Collectively they kill more women than breast cancer, and more men than prostate cancer.

Join us on October 28th where we will be launching The Aftershock; a NFP organisation raising funds and awareness for high mortality rate cancers. High mortality rate cancers are cancers that are less commonly diagnosed resulting in a lack of research and low improvement on five year survival rates over the last 30 years.

The Aftershock is inspired by Teresa Neate who was diagnosed with a rare form of thyroid cancer in December 2014 which spread to her spine, resulting in paralysis. Through an extensive rehab program Teresa defied the odds and learnt to walk again, only to have the cancer return on her spine placing her back in hospital. Devastatingly, Teresa did not come home from hospital and passed away in September 2016.

Special guest speaker James Lee (MBBS FRACS PhD), will be sharing his current research project he will be collaborating with The Aftershock on. Current brain cancer patient Scott Bennett will be there to share his incredible story with the insidious disease. Help us eradicate high mortality rate cancers.

Drinks and nibbles will be provided.

Dress code: smart casual.
