Event description

Description

This one-day workshop brings together specialists from the Generation 3 Melbourne Attachment and Caregiving Lab, and the Science of Adult Relationships Lab, to discuss two complementary frameworks for the assessment of adult attachment. The approaches include several of the most widely used and reliable methods for the assessment of adult attachment.

  • The first of these approaches, with origins in Personality and Social Psychology, deals with the assessment of individual differences in adult attachment referred to as ‘attachment style’. Assessment of attachment style is through self-report questionnaires, which focus on cognitions and behaviours with close others.
  • The second of these approaches, with origins in developmental attachment theory and research, focuses on the assessment of adult attachment as evidenced in mental representations within attachment narratives, assessed through interview and projective methods.
  • Both assessment approaches feature measures that demonstrate strong validity and predict a wide range of interpersonal and mental health phenomena, across the life-course.
