About the workshop

In this workshop renowned ceramic artist Pru Morrison will teach you her incredible terra sigillata techniques. Best recognised from renowned ancient Greek and Roman pottery, terra sigillata coating techniques were traditionally used to achieve a high gloss stain without a glaze.

Pru puts her own twist on the historical terra sigillata technique by using it as a medium to carry colour. She layers colours and scraffitto to the body of her clay to create her signature, witty drawings and text.

After Pru has demonstrated her unique Terra sigillata techniques, you’ll work closely with Pru to use this technique to decorate ceramic dishes made by Pru. Your dishes will be fired to collect at a later date.

What you’ll get:

  • Learn Terra sigillata techniques under the guidance of renowned ceramic artist
  • Two premade ceramic dishes made by Pru
  • Your dishes will be fired to collect at a later date
  • All the equipment and materials you need to decorate your dishes
  • Afternoon tea

What to bring:

  • + Please wear closed in shoes
  • + We’ll have aprons for you but please wear enclosed shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty!

About Pru Morrison

Pru Morrison’s ceramic art provokes an open-ended dialogue about everyday life in Australia.

Pru is a multidisciplinary artist who practices etching, painting and drawing – artistic expressions that all exert some influence over her ceramics. Her pieces are made by layering different coloured clay slips in the terra sigillata style before scratching through the strata to create an image on the surface of the clay body.

Pru’s major solo exhibition Yesterday’s Favourite is on display at Artisan from 16 June – 28 July 2018.
