TEDxCERN Broadcast & CMS Virtual Visit
Friday, 16 October 2015 from 12:30 pm to 6:00 pm (AEDT)
San Francisco, California, USA
London, United Kingdom
TEDxCERN@Monash Broadcast, followed by Virtual Visit to CMS
CERN will be hosting a TEDx event, with the theme, Breaking the Rules. Even though the TEDxCERN main stage will be in Geneva Switzerland, we would like to share these ideas through an official broadcast to Monash University. Directly following the broadcast will be a Virtual Visit to the CMS detector at CERN.
TEDxCERN 2015 brings you ideas that challenge the norm with solutions that could transform lives. From tangible interfaces that allow human interaction via e-devices, using 3D technology as a means to revolutionize education and product fabrication, to exploring transformations of matter into habitable structures, TEDxCERN’s speakers this year bring you their visions for a new world. These ideas push beyond the boundaries of academia to inform our present and change our future.
Following the TEDx broadcast will be a Virtual Visit to one of CERN's largest detectors the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS). We invite you to join us on a virtual tour, with a direct live link to Geneva, Switzerland where physicists and engineers working at CERN will share their experience of working on CMS. Learn about CERN, the Large Hadron Collider, and the physics that take place there through this rare opportunity.
Two sessions of talks will take place consisting of remarkable speakers from a broad range of scientific disciplines, aiming their talks for a general public audience. Similarly the CMS Virtual Visit does not require any detailed knowledge of CMS or particle physics, just an interest in physics.
1st Session - Rule breakers: 12:30pm - 2:10pm
2nd Session - Visionaries: 2:30pm - 4:00pm
CMS Virtual Visit: 4:30pm - 6:00pm
This event is supported by the ARC Centre of Excellence for Particle Physics at the Terascale and the Monash School of Physics and Astronomy.
Which sessions should I register for?:
You are welcome to attend just one or two, or all three sessions. All of the sessions are open to the public and free to attend.
Due to extensive building work in the north-west section of the campus, we recommend that you access the venue via the campus main entrance on Wellington Road (see map).
All day paid parking is available in the SE3 car park at $8.00 per day. Hourly parking rates apply in S1, S2 (see map). Please note that ticket machines only take coins and do not give change.
