About this Event

TOOL SHARPENING & MAINTENANCE

Gouges, scrapers, scribes and chisels — printmaking tools are often very similar to those used in woodworking, but there are a few unique variations such as three-sided scrapers and burins. This month we invite one of our favourite artists and renowned woodworker Carol Russell, to show us the principles of tool sharpening. We will cover when to sharpen, when to hone, and how to protect your investment in fine tools.

Date & Time: Wednesday 27 May, 6:30pm* — 8:30pm

*Session starts at 6:30pm sharp, doors open from 6:00pm. Attendees are encouraged to arrive between 6:00pm and 6:15pm to allow time to settle in beforehand. Session will run until 8:30pm.

Location: Grey Hand Press, Unit 28/ 16 Crockford Street, Northgate

ABOUT THE TECHNICAL SERIES

These short lectures and demonstrations will discuss the finer points of printmaking process and will cover topics such as stone graining and selection, etching processes, editioning, paper selection and preservation, and basic conservation techniques. While some of these sessions will focus on techniques specific to lithography, many will be applicable to all printmaking methods.

To be held on the fourth Wednesday of each month*, the series will be designed as an ‘a la carte’ format, allowing attendees to come along to the lectures that are most useful or relevant to their practice; whether that is just a select few, or all twelve sessions on offer. Discounts are available if five or all eleven sessions are booked at any one time. When booking a multi-session ticket, you may select which sessions you would like to attend.

Please note: these sessions are not workshops, but rather demonstrations and opportunities for open discussion, knowledge exchange, and conversation about printmaking methods and processes. Bring along your own experiences and questions to share with the group!

Refreshments included in the ticket price. Please advise on any dietary requirements when booking.

* There will be no session in December.
