Calling all women:

Are you a mum, step-mum, aunt, grandma, carer or women in business

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a bit more tech savvy?

Girl Geek Academy, Women's Health East and Maroondah Council are excited to present this all women event

In this session you will hear from Helen, Girl Geek Academy Program Manager and learn about all things digital including digital literacy, cyber security and coding. The tech talk will be followed by a practical and fun introductory learning to code session.

Girl Geek Academy will provide you with access, advice and resources you need to keep learning and navigating online

In this event you will learn about:

  • The benefits and concerns of online spaces for young people
  • Practical technological skills about how the internet works; and also
  • Take home information, conversation starter fact sheets, and connections to equip you with further knowledge

A bit about Girl Geek Academy:

Girl Geek Academy is a global movement encouraging women to learn technology, create start-ups and build more of the internet.

They work to see an increase of women in tech, women in games, women who make, women designers and female founders.

Girl Geek’s initiatives include coding and hackathons, 3D printing and wearables, game development, design, entrepreneurship and start-ups.

They also work with teachers, schools, parents and corporates and startups to increase the number of women with professional technical and entrepreneurial skills.

Event Specifics:

Light dinner and refreshments will be served at 6.30, ready for a 7pm start and will event will conclude at 9pm.

For any latecomers these refreshments will remain available.

Please be sure to bring your laptop or iPad for activities.

Will we be photographed?

Participants may be photographed in the context of this event. As a world first program, we often have media wanting to visit our team and take footage for newspaper and television. We supervise photographers at all times and ensure they do not disrupt learning. On arrival we will provide you with a release form for both you sign for photography.

You mentioned coding...I do/don't know how to code, can I come?

Yes, all women are welcome! We will provide you with resources and information you can use at home no matter what your experience is. There is something for everyone.
