Event description
Learn how modern MATLAB can address common challenges associated with teaching Engineering coding skills.

About this Event

Flipped classrooms, project-based learning, collaborative learning spaces, computational thinking – are all examples of the evolution of modern engineering education. There is simply an expectation that the teaching and learning experience in 2020 should be very much different to that of 1999.

Fostering curiosity, empowering students to apply and discover, are all critical in successfully engaging with today's engineering student. In parallel to the modernization of engineering education, MATLAB too has evolved over the last 20 years. A blinking command prompt and a blank white page with Courier New font seems as dated today as the “chalk and talk” lecture deliveries of 1999.

So, have you embraced modern MATLAB, which is built for today’s learning environment?

In this hands-on workshop we'll demonstrate and practice using the latest MATLAB features and resources that support classroom modernization. Specifically, we’ll cover:

  1. How to create interactive scripts using the Live Editor
  2. How to use MATLAB Online - it's the MATLAB desktop embedded in a Web browser.
  3. How to use MATLAB GRADER to automate classroom assessments and use the analytics that are available?

Prerequisites for attending this session:

  • Bring your Laptop.
  • Make sure you have created a free MathWorks account using your official university email address. See here: au.mathworks.com/mwaccount/register
  • Although we will predominantly be using MATLAB Online, there will be a few examples where a "Desktop Installation" will be used. So make sure you’ve installed the FULL UNSW campus license

Facilitated by Mathworks' Bradley Horton.

Lunch will be provided.

** Please note, this workshop is restricted to UNSW staff and spaces are limited. Engineering staff will have priority.
