Event description

Description

A greater numbers of children who have experienced abuse, neglect and victims of household dysfunction are entering our childcare centres, preschools, primary and secondary schools. In the brains of children who have experienced such traumatic events, neural pathways associated with fear and survival responses are strongly developed. The research shows that consumed by fear, these children find it difficult to achieve a state of calmness that would allow them to learn, grow and develop (Perry, 2004; Schore, 2001; Stein & Kendall, 2004). This practical and interactive workshop aims to develop an understanding so that educators can adapt their teaching practices to promote a sense of safety, build trust and address the learning needs of children impacted by trauma.
