Description

This seminar is designed for teachers and education assistants working with year 1 and 2 students. In this seminar you will learn:

LITERACY

  • How to cater for delayed, average and advanced students within the same classroom.

  • How to utilise the time efficient testing to formulate a plan to instruct phonics, spelling, decoding/reading and writing.

  • How to cater for non-readers/non-writers.

  • The use of PLD’s apps to support reading and spelling acquisition.

  • How to set up peer tutoring, phonic handwriting, phonic dictation, EA programs, coordination with support, homework supplements and home reading.

  • How to implement a time efficient small group process for non-readers/non-spellers.


ORAL LANGUAGE

  • How to teach six and seven year oral language skills: listening, speaking, vocabu- lary, following instructions, comprehension, picture book retelling/rewriting, narrative generation, recounting significant learning from the school day.

  • How to support ‘non-writers’ and the reluctant writers.

  • How to involve parents in the process. (ie: if a middle to high SES school)
