Description

This seminar is designed for teachers and education assistants working with pre-primary or the foundation year students. In this seminar you will learn:

LITERACY

  • How to teach the most important pre-literacy skills: Phonemic awareness: blending (for reading) and segmenting (for spelling/writing) and alphabet sound knowledge.

  • How to teach reading, spelling and writing within an early childhood setting.

  • The use of PLD’s apps to support the literacy learning.

  • How to plan and carry out short but effective whole class, small group and individual activities.


MOVEMENT & MOTOR

  • How to explicitly instruct the skill of letter formation in an early childhood manner.

  • An overview of fine and gross motor learning for this age range.


ORAL LANGUAGE

  • How to teach four and five year oral language skills: listening, speaking, vocabulary, semantics, comprehension, picture book retelling, news, activity retells and show and tell.

  • How to schedule whole class learning as well as small group sessions.

  • How to involve parents in the process (i.e. if a middle to high SES school).
