Event description

Description

Effective communication underpins the patient journey and is a fundamental component in clinical governance. It is also a principle in the Australian Charter of Health Care Rights in Victoria. When care goes wrong, it undermines the ability for consumers to partner in their own healthcare.

Safer Care Victoria has engaged Deakin University’s Centre for Organisational Change in Person-Centred Healthcare and is offering health service staff the opportunity to participate in a full day of experiential learning to advance your communication skills.

Advance your skills to deconstruct effective and ineffective communication skills in the clinical workplace, to underpin your ability to teach and supervise others.

An expert clinical communications facilitator will guide you through interactive learning to deconstruct clinical consultations, identify evidence-based micro skills and develop a shared healthcare communications language.

By analysing video of clinical scenarios and participating in interactions with a simulated clinical learner, you will:

  • Consider how feedback shapes learning
  • Practice methods to deal with clinical learning situations
  • Build confidence in discussing communication skills with colleagues you supervise
  • Learn how to prepare the learning environment before, during and after clinician-patient scenarios
  • Develop tailored approaches for different types of learners
  • Identify evidence-based micro skills in clinical consultations

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the best methodology to teach healthcare communications in your own clinical environment
  2. Develop a shared healthcare communications language to underpin educational approaches
  3. Outline the evidence base linking healthcare communication interventions and health outcomes.
  4. Develop skills to deconstruct observed & modelled clinical learning consultations.

Ticket sales end on 21 November. Register now to secure your place.
