Sean Cousins has been making documentary films for twenty years. He has directed and produced work in all corners of the world for broadcasters such as ABC, SBS, Nat Geo, Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, Network Ten and many others. His most recent work is the acclaimed SBS documentary Indian Wedding Race, which screened as part of the Untold Australia series in April 2016. Click here for Sean’s full work history.

Sean is available to come to western Melbourne for a weekend and share his approach to teaching documentary filmmaking.

NB: This workshop will be held at a school in western Melbourne, but is open to any teachers willing to travel to this region.

WHAT’S COVERED
The two-day intensive covers a broad range of ideas and skills, a little theory and a lot of practical knowledge. It will cover such questions and topics as:

  • What is our job as teachers of Media?
  • What do you need to know to teach documentary to young people?
  • Identifying achievable ideas for short documentaries
  • The dark art of scripting documentaries
  • Stages of production
  • Modes of documentary
  • Crew roles and definitions
  • A gear review (covering the best equipment for making documentaries)
  • And much more!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS EVENT

  • This event can only run if at least 5 teachers book. If less than 5 teachers have booked by midday, Friday 31 March (one week before the event), you will be notified that the event is cancelled and any tickets that have been purchased up-front will be refunded in full.
  • If at least 5 teachers have booked by midday, Friday 31 March, the event will run (subject to a location being confirmed), and Sean will contact you regarding the logistics of the event (e.g. to confirm the event's location).
  • The workshop will run from from 9am–4pm on Day 1 and from 9am–2pm on Day 2.
