Event description
How can you better support a child's learning journey?

About this Event

Our Workshop aims to explore common learning barriers and discuss strategies based on Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) to enable your child to better learn and achieve maximum outcomes in their learning.

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) commonly have difficulties in learning a task or activity, despite multiple instructional attempts. They may demonstrate a reluctance to engage in play with you or perhaps display difficulty in following a simple instruction such as ‘get your bag.’

Workshop attendees will be equipped to identify different barriers that might impede learning, as well as how to incorporate ‘learning to learn’ teaching objectives when assisting a child in skill acquisition.

This Workshop will cover concepts including:

• Attending

• Matching (visual perception) and imitation

• Waiting, responding to instruction and remaining calm

• Task analysis

• Chaining, prompting, fading and shaping

This Workshop is suitable for parents of children on the spectrum, as well as complimentary service providers, clinical professionals or carers working with these children. It will benefit anyone, from parents trying to teach independence at home to clinicians wanting to improve a child’s participation in therapy.
