Description

New in 2019 the Gold Museum introduces Collection CloseUp: The Chinese Collections.

Aimed at secondary students, this program will focus on the period 1890-1914. This program links with the cross-curricular priority “Asia and Australia’s Engagement with Asia” and looks at examples of cultural transfer to and from Asia around the emergence of the Republic of China. Go behind-the-scenes with one of the world’s oldest Chinese processional object collections, including Loong the Dragon, and with the extensive collection of missionaries George and Robina Arnott-Rogers. Explore questions of migration and cultural exchange between China and Australia.

This teacher preview will take you through the spaces and content featured in the program; teachers will go on a unique back-of-house tour to explore rarely seen items from this collection and be introduced to how we can use these collections with your students.

Free, light refreshments and a letter of PL included.
