Description

School teachers are invited to a curatarial tour of the exhibition From Another View. This exhibition by the State Library, in partnership with the Minderoo Foundation, considers the legacy of John Forrest's 1874 trek and the impact on Western and South Australian exploration history.

From Another View contextualises Aboriginal peoples' understanding of Country with those of the explorers. Yamaji, Martu, Yarnagu/Anangu peoples respond to the explorers walking through Country.

Hosted by the State Library of Western Australia, this professional learning event offers a curatorial preview of the exhibition, tying together historical images, maps, journals, and original artwork.

This exhibition supports upper primary teachers with the following HASS inquiry questions:

  • How were Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' ways of living adapted to available resources and how has their connection to Country/Place influenced their views on the sustainable use of these resources, before and after colonisation (ACHASSK089)
  • How do the diverse Australia's first peoples connect to Country/Place (eg.land, sea, waterways, skies) and what was their pre-contact ways of life? (ACHASSK083)
  • What was the contribution or significance of an individiual or group in shaping the Swan River Colony? What was their motivations and actions? (such as explorers) (ACHASSK110)
