Event description

Description

In this full day workshop you will join local bushfoods expert Kris Schaffer to build an edible natives garden, and be immersed in the world of Tasmanian edible natives.

In the morning half of this workshop you will learn how to identify local edible natives, and about their cultural significance. Kris will tell you about respectful harvesting, and show you proper preparation of potentially poisonous plants.

A light lunch is included which will feature some of the bushfoods discussed, and will give you the chance to learn different preparation techniques and how you might include edible natives in your own cooking.

After lunch participants will be helping to install a 'Growing Respect Garden' on the grounds of the venue, featuring the bushfoods discussed. Discussion will focus on the special growing requirements of local natives and about the greater role of edible natives in Tasmania's diverse eco-system. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask Kris questions.
