Event description
Explore the intersection of drawing and performance art in this one-off workshop with Tanya Voges.

About this event

Participants will have the opportunity to create an expressive, large scale whole body drawing, capturing the body’s movement and exploring ideas of memory, embodiment, duration and the present moment.

In this workshop, Voges invites participants to immerse themselves in her improvisational, movement-based approach to drawing. Participants are invited to experiment with drawing through gesture, dance, reach, test various materials, and collaborate with other participants to develop a large scale drawing.

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing which they are happy to move and get dirty in.

Voges’ dance background very much informs her approach to art. Using drawing as a way to document her body’s trace, Voges seeks to capture movement and to immortalise something that is often temporary and fleeting. Voges often collaborates with dancers to create participatory performance art in galleries, films or on stage.

Artist bio:

Tanya Voges is an interdisciplinary artist who creates choreography for theatre and gallery spaces. Engaging with collaborators of various disciplines, she combines her experience in dance, drawing, community engagement and dance film-making to create multimedia performance works, live dance pieces and dance for screen.

Voges resides and makes work on the unseeded lands of the Peramangk peoples of the Adelaide Hills. She is part of the Artist Residence in Motherhood, an open source residency created by Lenka Clayton, to use the constraints of Motherhood as parameters to make work, not see them as obstacles. She has created an alternative mothers' group MAMAA- Mother Artists Making Art, Australia which has both an online community and studio sharing in Adelaide.

Voges has presented site-specific work at SUE Festival, SALA, Alt Fest, Vivid Festival, SA Museum, Crack Festival Newcastle, Alaska Projects Sydney and solo dance works for IOU Dance at Carriageworks, Short + Sweet Dance, Fringe, Art Not Apart and You Are Here Festivals.

Recently, Voges has been Artist in Residence at Australian Dance Theatre, Dancehub SA, The Mill’s inaugural CAM Res Recipient curating Postcards from Motherhood and Flinders Medical Centre for SALA 2020, and is a recipient of Tracing the Anthropocene at SA Museum through Guildhouse.
