Description

Celebrate the Japanese Tanabata Festival with us. Learn about the story behind the festival and make beautiful ‘wishes’ to decorate our bamboo tree with.

Also known as the Star Festival the Tanabata Festival is celebrated in Japan between July and August. Traditionally children and adults write their wishes on narrow strips of coloured paper, along with other paper ornaments, and attach them to bamboo branches. Some cities in Japan are famous for their elaborate, and beautiful, Tanabata displays.

We will be celebrating at the Library by making our own version of Tanabata decorations to adorn our special bamboo tree and also for children to take home and enjoy.

This activity is proudly sponsored by the City of Busselton and the Busselton & Sugito Sister Cities Association.

Suitable for ages 4– 12 years.
This is a free event but bookings are essential to secure a place.
Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
