Description

In part one of Tall Tales and True, Journeys Real and Imagined, we drew on material from the Rare Books Collection to show tales of exploration and the imaginary journeys they inspired. In part two, the journeys are of a different nature, showcasing our material on the history of science.

The exhibition will feature major scientific works such as Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, Newton’s Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, and Einstein’s Special and General Theory of Relativity, alongside the polymath syntheses of Mary Somerville’s Mechanism of the Heavens and the technical brilliance of John Gould’s The Birds of Australia. These journeys are tales of scientific exploration and discovery that push the boundaries of the seen and unseen worlds.

Dr Jasmina Lazendic-Galloway, Lecturer in the School of Physics and Astronomy, will open the exhibition.

Please RSVP by Sunday 29 April 2018.
