Event description
Learn about the cutting edge of LGBTIQA+ health and sexual health research from experts in the field!

About this Event

Let's talk up LGBTIQA+ health at Talking It Up, featuring the latest research on LGBTQIA+ health and sexual health. Experts will share what they’ve learned, and the challenges and surprises they’ve found along the way. Take part in workshops and discussions to support you in your work with LGBTIQA+ young people.

Dr Julie Mooney-Somers is an expert on research into the health of sexuality and gender diverse people, with a specific expertise in LBQ women’s health. She leads the longest running periodic survey of LBQ women’s health and wellbeing in the world (SWASH), and collaborates on several projects about LGBTIQ substance use.

Dr Martin Holt specialises in HIV prevention research with gay and bisexual men. A social scientist by training, he has worked at the Centre for Social Research in Health since 2003.

Dr Ada Cheung leads the Trans Medical Research research group which improves health outcomes through medical research, education and advocacy. Her research predominantly focusses on understanding the effects of gender-affirming hormone treatments in transgender individuals.

Afternoon tea will be provided. More speakers are being confirmed.

Talking It Up is part of our calendar for the tenth birthday of Healthy Equal Youth (HEY), which is a state government initiative to support the health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ young Victorians.
