Thursday 17 January 2013, 6pm - 10pm
Donkey Wheel House - 673 Bourke St, MELBOURNE (on the corner of Bourke & Godfrey Sts)
Peppermint magazine and Billy Blue College of Design present a special evening of discussion and celebration of a changing fashion industry. Tailoring Tomorrow is set to be a fun, informative night looking at the promising future of sustainable fashion, and the critical skills and ideas required to get our fashion graduates and designers there.
Peppermint is bringing together speakers from a wide range of fashion industries including designers and brand managers from independent labels and major fashion brands, and representatives from the textile industry, certification boards and ethical manufacturing to discuss sustainability and the future of fashion, and how new graduates and designers can apply new found skills—including sustainable techniques and concepts, textiles/materials, and ethical labour/production—and tailor them to mainstream brands in practical and beneficial ways.
Guest speakers include local sustainability advocate Eloise Bishop, award-winning eco couture designer Rachael Cassar, designers from Australian brands SOSUME and ALAS, and representatives from Ethical Clothing Australia (ECA) and The Council of Textile & Fashion Industries of Australia (TFIA). Together they'll share insights into how independent labels and major fashion brands are pioneering ways to merge sustainability and fashion, forging exciting new paths for designers and graduates.
A mini market showcasing textiles, processes and labels will be part of the event, giving you a chance to engage with concepts in a tactile environment and to see some excellent examples of sustainable fashion principles first hand. Eco events partner Grassroots Productions will be styling the event and providing delicious local organic canapés and drinks.
Whether you're a student, designer, or just someone interested in hearing thoughts on the future of sustainable fashion from some of Australia's brightest then this is a night not to be missed! Tailoring Tomorrow will be a night to inspire and discover new ways of creative thinking, action and awareness to tackle fashion's future.
