Description

What we're doing & why:

The Andes mountain range is one of the most important geographical areas in South America, and the world; its climatic influence, its capacity to accumulate water, and its altitude allowed the development of the Andean cultures; and with it, a fundamental spiritual significance. Its beauty is majestic, and it is one of Chile's defining cultural and geographical features.

We will stop to have our classical country breakfast in a house of a friend in Cajon del Maipo to get all energy we'll need for the day. We will do a medium-low difficulty hike that could take us about 7 hours in total and take us to the Morado Glacier -- our highest point of the outward journey with an altitude of 3200 msnm. This is the most accessible glacier in the Central zone. The glacier falls with ice walls to the lagoon with a height of 15 meters, where ice floes are seen floating in its muddy water.

What to bring: Comfortable clothes, trekking shoes or sport ones, bottle of water 1.5 minimum, snacks if you are starveling.

Food & Drinks: A traditional country breakfast and a packed lunch will be provided.

Expected Time: 8.00- 18.00pm
Meeting point: Merced 652 at 8.00am

The Why I Translated literally, a kiltro is a mixed-breed street dog. In Chilean slang, Kiltro is a word that represents Chileans from mixed backgrounds, which actually implies the vast majority of Chileans. That mixture in expression is what allows us to differentiate ourselves and continue to build on our identity, rich like none other.

Latin America is a land of miscegenation, an assembly of different people and cultures. Our present and our future are built on the roots of a long and complex mestizaje, making our culture unique and universal at the same time.

The Impact I Expand your global perspective as you experience the fusion that is Chilean culture through movements, tastes, all kinds of sensorial expressions and amazing views. We will familiarize ourselves through experiences with different practices and characteristics of the Chilean mestizo.
