Description

What we're doing & why:

We'll spend a full day in the the coastlands. The Pacific Ocean has a strong influence on each town that lines the Chilean coast. We will travel to an area known for its marine biological richness, beauty and spectacular surfing waves worldwide: Pichilemu. Our first stop will be at the beach for a stand-up paddleboarding excursion!

Following the SUP lesson, we will head over to the Salinas de Cahuil, a former salt production barracks run by locals who continue to preserve what has always been a local and family tradition. They are in production season, so we will have the fortune to hear a salinero share the details of his trade and everything involved in the process from collecting sea salt to refining it for our tables. Then we'll enjoy a small empanada lunch; please bring cash to get some more food if you'll be hungry.

To finish the day we go to enjoy the beach and--if you'd like--a surf lesson! The lesson would cost 15,000 pesos ($22 USD). (If you don't need a lesson and want to strike out on your own, you are welcome to rent a surfboard or SUP from one of the many local outfitters).

Sign up for the surf lesson in the slack channel.

What to bring: Sunblock, bottle of water, swimming suit, towel, a jacket, camera; cash if you are renting equipment for surfing or to buy extra snacks.
Food & Drinks: Lunch and snacks included.
Expected Time: 7.45am - 7.00pm
Meeting point: TBD

The Why I Santiago is a spectrum of extremes, known for both its expansive urban development and its striking, varied natural beauty. You'll notice the tensions that exist between these extremes, but you'll need the history and the experience to understand them better.

The Impact I Santiago reflects and allows us to perceive with little effort the transition towards modernization and integration into the globalized world. Social and natural aspects converge in the city.
