Description

Join a host of Strength and Conditioning Coaches with both national and international experience working in professional sport, as they outline many of the key competencies required for the modern Strength and Conditioning Coach, as well as discussing various pathways to getting into and progressing within the profession. The day will involve practical workshops and presentations, specifically aimed to introduce beginner S&C coaches to areas such as practical speed and agility development, Olympic weightlifting, planning and periodisation of strength development and integrated rehabilitation.

Keynote presenters include:

Anthony Lomando (Denver Broncos):
Anthony enters his seventh year with the Denver Broncos as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. He was named to his current position on Feb. 15, 2012.

Lomando came to Denver after spending three years working with the strength and conditioning staff for Jacksonville. He started his NFL career as an Intern with the Jaguars in 2009, before being promoted to a strength staff assistant in 2010. Anthony has also spent time working in professional football and has spent time working in Qatar.

Anthony will be presenting on The Principles of Speed and Agility Training.

Mark Kilgallon (Sydney Swans):
Mark is currently the Head Strength Coach at the Sydney Swans. Mark completed his Masters in strength and conditioning at the University of Edinburgh. Prior to working at the Swans, Mark was working for the Welsh Rugby Union as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Wales National Academy. Mark also spent three years working for the Sports Institute of Northern Ireland.

Mark has experience working across the globe having spent three years at the Aspire Sports Academy in Qatar and two years at Harvard University as an Intern and Assistant Strength Coach.

Mark will be presenting on The Introduction to Weightlifting and Strength Training.

Simon Harries (Australian Rugby Union):
Simon worked as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Newcastle Knights from 2007-2010. During that time, Simon completed his degree in teaching from the University of Newcastle. In 2012, Simon was appointed by the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) as the National Programs Strength and Conditioning Coach. In 2015, Simon was appointed in his current role as the Head of Performance Science and Rehabilitation for the Men's Sevens program.

While gaining strength and conditioning experience, Simon continued his passion for research and completed his PhD in 2017 at the University of Newcastle. Simon has conducted numerous studies during his career, focusing on improving performance in elite rugby union athletes.

Simon will be presenting on Applied Rehabilitation and the Effective Relationships in an Inter-Disciplinary Team.

Christopher Epakis (The Scots College):
Christopher has been a Strength and Conditioning Coach at The Scots College since April 2016. Prior to that, Christopher started working as an Intern at The South Sydney Rabbitohs while completing his HSC. Christopher was fortunate enough to spend the 2014 and 2015 NRL seasons with the Rabbitohs. At the end of the 2015 NRL season, Christopher was appointed in his current role as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the QBE Swans Academy.

Over the last few years, Christopher has travelled to Japan and the United States to spent time with numerous professional sports teams in the NFL, MLS, Japanese Top League (rugby union) as well as also NCAA D1 college programs.

Christopher will be presenting on Working with Adolescent Athletes.

Meer Awny (Combat Performance Coach):
Meer is a Strength & Conditioning coach from Sydney, Australia. His work is primarily centred on working with combat sports, ranging from amateur levels to national competition, as well as top #10 ranked athletes in the world; across a variety of martial arts.

Meer has travelled the world to better his development of the 'fighter' and himself as a coach, and has spent time with multiple UFC fighters and learnt from some of the best combat sports performance coaches in the field.

Meer will be presenting on Planning and Programming for Strength.
