About this Event
SKATE NOW has joined with City of Sydney, to offer a series of our popular Learn to Skate workshops at the new Sydney Park skatepark. We will be running free clinics over 4 days (14th, 17th, 21st and 23rd January), with 2 beginner and 1 intermediate session per day.
Daily Schedule
9:00am – 10:30am Beginner Session #1
10:45am – 12:15pm Beginner Session #2
12:30pm – 2:00pm Intermediate Session
Please note: the first two sessions of each day are aimed at beginner level riders, and the third one geared toward intermediate level riders.
About our program:
Our program is based on low-risk, gradated learning, delivered with a balance of fun, skill development and safety instructions. Our enthusiastic team of instructors are experts at teaching the steps involved in learning how to ride safely, in a way children can easily understand and follow. We support students as they build their skills at their own pace, gain confidence, learn about skatepark etiquette and make friends along the way.
We can provide boards and all necessary protective gear, but if your child has their own, we advise that you bring it along (note: we will need to check their equipment is suitable).
Beginner Sessions
The beginner sessions will be run in the gymkhana (covered outdoor learning area) which, will be designated for our exclusive use. These sessions are suited for skaters who are just starting out, or have a few basic skills under their belt.
After the introduction and check in with each student, we will gear up and run through our signature Skate Now warmup. Students will then move onto practicing skills such as safe pushing, stance, board control and developing awareness of their surroundings. After this stage students may build on their basics and ride beginner-oriented skate obstacles.
Intermediate Session
The Intermediate session will also assemble in the Gymkhana area. After the introduction and checking in with each student, we will gear up, run through a more progressive Skate Now warm up. We will then assist riders to build on their skills, help them with specific tricks they’d like to learn and give them ideas for new moves. We can help them troubleshoot any issues and assist them with taking their riding to the next level.
COVID Safe
This is a COVID Safe event, and upon arrival all attendees must check-in at the sign-in table. We ask that parents and spectators stay outside of the teaching area whenever possible, and if your child is unwell, that they do not attend.
Waiver
All participants will need to have a waiver completed at the sign-in table (it can be downloaded from our website), prior to taking part in our program.
