Event description

Description

Oncofertility is a subfield that bridges oncology and reproductive services to explore and expand options for the reproductive future of cancer patients. Fertility preservation and oncofertility care have become increasingly important for paediatric cancer survivors and cancer patients of a reproductive age (15-45 years of age). We are pleased to offer this free symposium (program below) jointly funded by the Kids Cancer Alliance and the Translational Cancer Research Network on oncofertility care.

This symposium is open to health care professionals and scientists working across paediatric, AYA and adult health in oncology, haematology, radiation oncology, bone marrow transplant medicine, fertility or andrology medicine, who would like an update on current fertility preservation techniques. Also covered in the symposium will be the best methods of implementing age appropriate medical and psychological oncofertility services, and information on the latest oncofertility research studies.

We are pleased to have Professor Teresa Woodruff give two plenary lectures.

Professor Teresa Woodruff

Prof. Woodruff is the Thomas J. Watkins Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology, the Vice Chair of Research (OB/GYN), the Chief of the Division of Reproductive Science in Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine and Professor of Molecular Biosciences at the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University.

Prof Woodruff is an internationally recognised expert in ovarian biology and, in 2006, coined the term “oncofertility ” to describe the merging of two fields. Based on the pioneering science done in her lab, Dr. Woodruff was awarded a prestigious Roadmap Grant from the NIH (2007). She now heads the Oncofertility Consortium, an interdisciplinary team of biomedical and social scientist experts from various locations across the United States of America.
