Sydney | Lagrime D'Amante: At the tomb of the beloved
Sat. 8 April 2017, 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm AEST
The Italian madrigal tradition of the 17th century produced some of the world’s most innovative and finely crafted vocal music: powerful, achingly beautiful and audaciously surprising. They are stories of love and loss, of pain and sorrow, of joy and renewal.
Luminescence is proud to present this collection of extraordinary works from the era’s most preeminent madrigal composers. In this concert we will feature Monteverdi’s Lamente d’Ariana and Sestina, two turbulent and astoundingly chromatic works by Gesualdo, as well as music from De Wert, and Marenzio. Conducted by guest director, Dan Walker, this concert will also feature several works by contemporary Italian composers such as Ildebrando Pizzetti, whose rich harmonic writing style and sensitivity echoes the music of his renaissance forbears, a reminder the Italian madrigal tradition is alive and well today.
7 April, 6.30pm, Ainslie Arts Centre (Canberra)
8 April, 7.30pm, Glebe Town Hall (Sydney)
9 April, 6.00pm, Bluescope Art Gallery (Wollongong)
