Event description

Description

Join renowned comedians and UON graduates, John Doyle and Jonathan Biggins for a hilarious and inspiring evening as they interview each other about their memories of study and career journeys after graduation.

All proceeds will contribute to John’s fundraising effort as he aims to help raise more than $100,000 to support UON Indigenous students and research into Indigenous community health initiatives by trekking 65km of the Larapinta Trail in Central Australia in August.

So come along to hear some great stories and support a great cause!

John Doyle
Actor, writer and comedian
Honorary Degree - Doctor of Letters 2001
Bachelor of Arts 1982

A well-known radio and TV personality with a career spanning more than 20 years, John is most recognisable as ‘Roy Slaven’, one half of legendary Australian comedy duo ‘Roy & H.G.’ and was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in 2012 for service to the media as a presenter and entertainer, and as a supporter of a range of charitable organisations.

As one of Australia’s finest writers for stage and screen, his work spans the theatrical success of The Pig Iron People for the Sydney Theatre Company to the small screen acclaim of series such as Marking Time and Changi for the ABC.

John says, “UON has a terrific track record in tackling the two great issues that shamefully still confront Indigenous Australians - chronic health issues and limited educational opportunities… I'm more than happy to walk in the wilderness for days, hopefully you'll be happy to open the wallet and send a few dollars towards the challenge. I suspect I'll be pretty buggered towards the end.”

Jonathan Biggins
Actor, singer, writer and comedian
Bachelor of Arts 1985

Jonathan Biggins has co-created the highly successful Wharf Revue productions since 2000. His fortnightly column for the Good Weekend magazine ran for seven years. He has also worked for ABC Radio, hosting the afternoon show and late evening show on 702 ABC Sydney and made history doing the first broadcast out of ABC Radio's new Ultimo studios - interviewing Tony Squires. In 2015, he was the recipient of the UON Alumni Newton-John Award, which recognises innovation or creativity in any field that has improved cultural life.
