Description

Due to popular demand, The Women’s Health Collective will be returning in 2019 with new facilitator led courses! The postnatal population require a rehabilitation period, and safe progression back to exercise, sport & activity after the musculoskeletal changes in pregnancy, labour & birth.

This course provides comprehensive knowledge of the process of pregnancy & delivery can have on pelvic floor, teach how to assess for diastasis recti, and how to safely exercise and teach functional movement to new mums, as well as physiological education on prolapse, abdominal separation & pelvic instability.

POSTNATAL CONSIDERATIONS (POP & DRAM) -
At the completion of this course you will have :
1 Knowledge of pelvic floor & pelvic bowl anatomy & physiology and adjunct therapies (pessaries & manual therapy).
2 Knowledge of some of the common patho-physiology, injures or conditions that may effect exercise capacity in post-natal period, including abdominal separation (DRAM), Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) and pelvic instability.
3 Knowledge of red flags & referral system for postnatal clients.
4 Be able to design and implement a specific and appropriate exercise prescription for Mums & Bubs groups.
5 Understand exercise protocols for POP & DRAM rehabilitation & modifications.

Since graduating with a Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology from QUT, Esme has had a passion for preconception, pregnancy and postnatal health, and the importance being physically active can have on the short and long term health outcomes for both mother and baby.

Esme has worked as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) with a Women’s Health focus as part of multidisciplinary teams, and now works in her own clinic, Pear Exercise Physiology: Pregnancy & Women's Health in Brisbane. She is the ESSA Women’s Health Expert, and has taught webinars & several workshops in the past year on women’s health and exercise topics, including for ESSA, NSW Health, Sports Medicine Australia & The Women’s Health Collective.
