Description

I’m happy to confirm that an Adelaide evening SXSW Meet-Up is coming up at:

St. Paul’s Creative Centre
Pulteney Street and Flinders Street
February 26 from 6pm-7:30pm

It’s been organised by Justin Counihan of Floodlight Media with the support of the Music Development Office through the host venue St. Paul’s Creative Centre.

We start with a welcome to all registrants for 2019 as well as veterans of 2018 and earlier plus those hoping to go and making up their minds. It’s also for the bands showcasing this year in the Music Festival and filmmakers debuting their creations in the Film Festival.

But 65% of the registrants are going for the tech side, the Interactive Festival and Conference and this is reflected in the speakers we’ve lined up for the 90 minute networking, panel sharing tips and techniques from veteran SXSW delegates with time to answer your questions as well. Our speakers are:

* Ania Karzek is a policy wonk by trade and has worked across the private, not for profit and university sectors, as well as in government for more years than she cares to count. Currently working in the digital transformation space in government, Ania first attended SX in 2017 and her mind exploded. This will be Ania's third visit and her first year as a speaker.

* Dave Grice is the Co-Founder and CEO of Cognilitics, an IoT device and platform designed to provide smart data for cities across the globe, and No Boundaries Music School, a school dedicated to teaching musical instruments to people dealing with Autism. Previously he was the MD of Musitec, a world first music focused cluster, based in Adelaide. He’s been to several iterations of SXSW and was also a speaker last year on How To Build a Music City.

* Matthew Wilson of Novus Res and his brother Luke both attendeed SXSW in 2018 as part of an SA delegation. They run Novus Res, an independent virtual reality development studio in Adelaide. They are innovators in gaming, developing novel and fun ideas for virtual reality game play and bringing these to the rapidly expanding VR market. This approach has not only resulted in several successful releases but also multiple business awards.

* Matthew Salier is the Director of New Venture Institute which he founded in 2013. He has been to SXSW several years and this year he’s a speaker there and also hosting an Aussie Meet-up on the ground in Austin. He’s taking a mixture of emerging entrepreneurs, students from NVI and Flinders University to San Francisco as well as Austin—a well beaten path for him and his delegations annually. He’s been a mentor, advisor an coach to numerous start-up founders across Australia.

* Justin Counihan is the MC and organiser for this Meet-Up and is Managing Director of Adelaide and Melbourne film production company Floodlight Media. He started his SXSW addiction in 2017, returning this year. Originally working as an industrial designer on large budget interactive exhibitions, he leads a team of creatives in-house working on projects for the likes of Tesla, the AFL and Virgin Australia. Floodlight have also produced a number of independent short films, web sketches and music videos with Aussie talent including Triple J's Ben and Liam and Australian writer Rob Hunter.
