About FaceMatch

All children are beautifully unique in their appearance, and some children with genetic conditions share similar features as part of their wonderful face. These features can sometimes provide a clue to diagnosis.

FaceMatch is here to help find a diagnosis for children with significant developmental delay or intellectual disability by matching their facial features with those children who already have a diagnosis. With a diagnosis comes a road map for the future and some small relief in the known. FaceMatch was created working with parents of children with developmental delays or intellectual disability- we know what a diagnosis means in terms of early intervention and how much it can potentially help you and your child to have some clarity in what to expect for the future.FaceMatch uses advanced facial recognition software to create a map of your child's face that can then be used in two ways:

1. Already diagnosed - your child (or adult child) will become a part of our database, hopefully leading to the diagnosis of another child with the same condition, thereby helping another child and their family.

2. Undiagnosed - your search for answers may become clearer if your child is matched with the face/faces of diagnosed children in our database. Matching with other undiagnosed children can also help doctors find new developmental genes. The FaceMatch team will work with you and your doctor in the search for a diagnosis.

The process is simple-click the register button, take some lovely frontal facial pics (side of face, feet and hands pics optional), upload them along with your child’s details, and then, if you have it, add the email address of your Doctor; so they can do the rest of the work! If you don’t have your Doctor’s email, please don’t worry- we can help you out. Just leave the space blank and we can contact you to work through this next step. Don’t forget to click on register to complete. This takes around 5-10 minutes.

The project is led by Dr Tracy Dudding-Byth, Clinical Geneticist within the NSW Genetics of Learning disability service, and the project has been approved by Hunter New England Research Ethics Committee. Information about FaceMatch including privacy and security is available on their website or in their brochure.

RSVP by Thursday, 13 February 2020 by registering for your free ticket.
