Sustainable Living Communities: Murundaka Cohousing Open Day

Description
Come along to a day of talks, workshops and tours at Murundaka, a residential 'cohousing' community of 20 households based 15km from Melbourne CBD.
Pioneered in Denmark in the 1970s, cohousing is a form of development that combines the autonomy and independence of private dwellings with the companionship of communal spaces. Although there are hundreds of cohousing communities around the world, Murundaka is one of only four established cohousing developments in Australia.
At Murundaka, we garden together, share bikes, cars and common meals, and collaborate to lower our consumption. Our large shared common facilities have hosted birthdays, conferences, live music and even a wake. We aim to support each other through good times and bad.
Although Murundaka is unique in Victoria, we are not alone. The open day will include workshops from other groups looking to set up new cohousing ventures in Melbourne.
The entry fee ($50 full price, $40 concession card and SLF 2014 Big Ticket holders) includes:
- panel sessions with members of Cohousing Australia
- presentation on community life by Lisa Moore, PhD candidate with OASES
- tour of the 42 Bamfield Rd site
- meet & greet with members of local groups Urban Coop and Banyule Cohousing
- talk from Greg Foyster and Sophie Chishkovsky, authors of the book Changing Gears
- workshops and kids activities
- delicious vegetarian BBQ with produce from the communal garden
Don't miss this chance to tour one of the newest and most innovative urban sustainability communities in Australia.
This event is run by Earth Common Equity Rental Co-operative Limited.
