Event description
Join Kelli Donovan from Pure Pod to learn about the denim manufacturing industry and create your own textile art using recycled denim.

About this event

A fun and creative slow fashion workshop where you will learn about the denim manufacturing industry and textile waste issues while creating your own piece of denim textile art from unwanted denim jeans and garments saved from landfill.

Kelli Donovan has been a fashion designer for most of her career spanning over 28 years, specialising in sustainable and ethical design processes. Kelli has an award-winning sustainable fashion brand called Pure Pod. She is a passionate leader and pioneer in the ethical fashion movement in Australia, sharing her knowledge and journey into the fashion world.

Learn to hand stitch and create your own piece of denim art that you can take home to create into something else. You will learn how to cut, stitch and prepare the denim to make a banksia design. Following the workshop in your own time, it can be created into a piece of wall art, a bag, garment, cushion or whatever your creative energy desires.

Kelli will talk about her career and life long passion into the world of sustainable design as you enjoy your creative denim project. This workshop is suitable for the public or for aspiring fashion and product designers wanting to learn more about the denim industry and textile waste issues we are now dealing with.

Participants are asked to bring a pair of secondhand jeans to the workshop with them. Please note that the jeans will be cut up to create textile art.
