Event description

Description

Xponential and Morgan Stanley lunchtime briefings provide insights into issues relevant for chief executives and board members of charities and non-profit organisations. During the briefings, there are sector and market updates from Xponential Fundraising and Morgan Stanley, followed by a presentation from an expert speaker and ending with a facilitated discussion with the expert and guests.

As a not-for-profit organisation there is an expectation that every decision you make is sustainable, well balanced and considers society's wellbeing more broadly, not simply your consitutents. But do you put this same consideration into your financial portfolio, reserves or general funds? Whether you have $10,000 in a term deposit or millions of dollars in property and other assets, have you considered the social, environment and economic impact of your investments? Will they generate both financial returns and a positive societal impact? Are you lobbying against unethical business practices, but inadvertently supporting them through your financial decisionmaking?

These tough questions will be considered and addressed by our expert speaker Nathan Lim, Head of Research and Investment Strategy at Morgan Stanley, who is at the forefront of sustainable investing.  Sustainability is a commitment to the economic, social and environmental well-being that balances society’s needs today with the demands of tomorrow.  Sustainable investing can channel capital to the organisations that enable a more populous planet to thrive, even while working with constrained natural resources.  Nathan will highlight some of the more direct and proactive ways to achieve positive impact, reduce risks and create long-term value and discuss the challenges of tomorrow as a profound opportunity for innovation and investment.

This session would be particularly suitable for your organisation's CEO, CFO, treasurer or company secretary.

About the speaker:

Nathan joined Morgan Stanley in January 2016 and brings with him over 20 years of investment experience. His career has taken him across Asia, North America, Europe, the Middle East and Australia which has enhanced his perspective on both local and global issues.

Nathan is a frequent speaker and writer on the intersection between finance and the environment stemming from his previous role as the Portfolio Manager for the award winning Australian Ethical International Shares Fund. Nathan has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
