Event description

Description

Are you fascinated by WA history during the early years of the Swan River Colony? Explore this fascinating environmental history with author and former ABC broadcaster, Bill Bunbury. Be enlightened about the challenges of the land for the first settlers and how the wisdom of the Aboriginals and their ties to the land was a mystery to the European newcomers.

Bill Bunbury's most recent book is Invisible Country, Southwest Australia: Understanding a landscape (UWAP, 2015), a work which describes the environmental change that has occurred in south-western Australia since European settlement. The book follows four stories of the development of local rivers, forests and coastal plains. These stories were compiled through extensive conversations with farmers, ecologists, traditional owners and others. Bill will enliven his presentation with audio excerpts from some of the people whose stories are part of the history of this country.
