Supporting Your ... 'Short' Stories

Writing workshop with Guy Salvidge

This workshop is brought to you by the KSP Writers' Centre with support from the Shire of Mundaring. Tea and coffee provided.

In our frantic, content-saturated world, people's attention spans are getting shorter than ever, To hold their attention, you'll need land the first punch on the first line of your story and keep on punching until the final bell. Join WA author Guy Salvidge as we investigate what makes stories tick and interrogate the works of great maestros of the short form. Here you'll consider the intricacies of point of view, characterisation, rising tension and narrative voice, weaving them together to create well-crafted and vibrant fiction and ultimately learning why 'shorter is better'.

About the Facilitator

Guy Salvidge’s intermittently award-winning fiction has squirrelled its way into such esteemed publications as The Great Unknown, Westerly: New Creative, Stories of Perth and Award-Winning Australian Writing. His post-apocalyptic detective series, The Dying Rain and Other Forays into the Bramble Noir, was longlisted for the Carmel Bird Digital Literary Award in 2018. When he’s not writing, Guy moonlights as an English teacher in rustic, rural Western Australia.
