About this Event
In response to Frankston community sector feedback, Communities for Children Frankston presents this training, facilitated by the Australian Childhood Foundation. The training will cover both working with families experiencing trauma and/or mental health issues.
*Please note that face to face training will be subject to any COVID-19 Government guidelines applicable at that time .All attendees must adhere to any Government or venue COVID19 restrictions and requirements.

Day one : Trauma responsive practice with families
• Strengthen your understanding of the broad issues vulnerable children face within the context of culture, relationship, environment and experience.
• Explore the difficulties in engaging and re-engaging marginalised parents and carers who have also experienced complex trauma and explore the long- term implications of their experiences .
• Build your understanding of intergenerational trauma, trans-generational trauma, the science of epigenetics and its impact on our understanding of family functioning and the developing child .
• Gain practical skills and strategies that help facilitate trauma recovery for children and families
• Identify strategies for recovery and healing.
Day two: Supporting Parents who experience Mental Health Issues
• Review our understanding of mental health issues
• Consider the impact of parental mental health issues on parenting children
• Explore skills and strategies for effectively responding to and supporting parents who experience mental health issues
• Consider how we resource parents to provide relationally reparative experiences within the context of their mental health experiences.
• Practical ideas to support reconnection and meaning making for parents and children
