Description

Attention local ESL tutors within The City of Salisbury working with our local CALD community!

The City of Salisbury's Community Learning Programs Team has secured a professional development opportunity through STTARS (Supporting Survivors of Torture and Trauma) to examine the personal impact that torture and trauma has on the individual and how we can assist the survivors of these while also looking after ourselves.

The session will include:

  • Introduction to STTARS

  • Refugee experience and The Impact of Torture and Trauma on Resettlement

  • Traumatised behaviour on adults and children

  • Important considerations in clinical practice

  • Social medicine

  • Vicarious trauma and self-care

  • Making a referral

  • Q+A

A light lunch will be provided along with the opportunity to discuss further development needs for volunteer ESL Tutors in our local community from 12.30pm.

Professional Development session will be commencing at 1pm.

Attendees are also encouraged to explore STTARS website prior to the training: sttars.org.au

** Please be advised that this session is aimed at increasing skills, knowledge and confidence within our Volunteer Community within The City of Salisbury. Volunteers who assist Not-for-Profit organisations within this Council area are encouraged to attend. Due to limited spaces, we are only supplying limited tickets for paid staff and recommend these to be for supporting staff of volunteers attending on the day.
