Event description

Description

Girls often present with a unique profile from that of their male peer and are four times less likely to be diagnosed on the autism spectrum than boys.

It is essential to recognise how different girls are to boys typically and ensure that when we look at the unique needs of girls on the spectrum we also ensure we recognise that they are girls first and foremost. This session looks at a range of topics including-

  • Difficulties in making a diagnosis

  • Special interests and obsessions

  • Social and communication skills

  • Developing friendship skills

  • Internal anxiety and depression

  • Using their strengths to build self esteem

  • Bullying

  • Menstruation and dating

NDIS funding can be used to access this workshop if approved by an NDIA planner. In order to use NDIS funding to access this workshop you must have ‘Training for carer/parents’ listed as a support item within your child’s NDIS plan. Should this not be the case then you will need to contact your NDIS Planner and ask them to add the support item (Ref number 15_038_14_1_3) to the Plan in order to use funding to access this workshop.
