Event description

Description

The ACAP Alumni Team is pleased to announce our next professional development session in Brisbane and via zoom on;

Supporting children and families in the healing journey through Domestic and family Violence (DFV), with Elisa Agostinelli

Drawing on attachment and trauma principles, as well as a family systems framework, participants will be supported to explore the effect of DFV on family subsystems and discuss common reactions in the context of specific ages and developmental levels.

The presentation will provide participants with strategies to engage families in discussions about DFV and opportunities to apply practical skills. Activities will be shared that aim to foster children and parent’s understanding of their shared experience, rebuild damaged relationships and challenge unhealthy values and beliefs.

Consideration will be given to screening of domestic and family violence in clients, exploration of barriers to seeking support, consideration of safety, risks and readiness to engage in trauma therapy.

Key outcomes

  • Exploring effect of DFV on family and children

  • Understanding of common reactions to DFV within specific Developmental stages

  • Opportunity to develop practical skills in working with Children and family affected by DFV
