Event description
St Barnabas College is hosting a four day conference with Dr Michael Paterson on Professional Supervision in Ministry.

About this Event

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse particularly recommended that professional supervision be made mandatory for church workers. As such, St Barnabas College (SBC) supported by Charles Sturt University (CSU) and AnglicareSA, is hosting a four day conference on professional supervision in ministry. This conference would therefore be of interest to theological students, clergy, lay ministers, church workers, institutional leaders and ministry practitioners wanting to explore supervision or train as supervisors.

The conference will be run by the Dr Michael Paterson of The Institute of Pastoral Supervision & Reflective Practice. Michael is an Anglican priest, psychotherapist, spiritual director, pastoral supervisor and trainer based in Fife, Scotland. He is consultant to the NHS Education for Scotland Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy Unit. He is course director for professional training in supervision in Scotland and a frequent conference speaker and workshop leader. Michael sits on the editorial boards of Practical Theology and the Journal of Health & Social Care.

The course will cover topics such as:

• Introductory teaching about what supervision is/isn’t.

• Models of supervision

• Reflective Practice

• Accountability

• Boundaries

• The supervisor/supervisee relationship.

• Contracting into a supervision arrangement.

• Ethical dimensions of supervision.

• Transformational possibilities within the supervisory arrangement

The event will be held on February 10 -13, 2020 at St Mark's Residential College, 46 Pennington Terrace, North Adelaide.
