Previously, Christian directed the Computational Design Research group (CDR) at Aedas from 2004-14. He has taught at various European universities such as University College London, University of East London, TU Vienna and IE Madrid and holds a PhD from the Technical University Vienna. Recently he functioned as visiting professor at the Technical University Munich and the University of Sheffield.

Lecture Title:

“SUPERSPACE – science-based space planning with big data”

Brief description of lecture:

Director of SUPERSPACE, Dr Christian Derix, will explain the foundations of data-based space planning and demonstrate its application to professional projects. The group has introduced many computational concepts to architecture and urban design over the last 20 years such as machine learning and artificial life and is now at the forefront of big data in urban design.SUPERSPACE is the design research arm of Woods Bagot with offices in London, Sydney and San Francisco, and integrates academics and professional from various design and science disciplines.
