In 2008 Ross Garnaut prophesied that without adequate action, by 2020 Australia would face a more frequent and intense fire season.

About this Event

Professor Ross Garnaut is the author or editor of 48 books, including the best-selling Dog Days (2013), in addition to numerous influential articles in scholarly journals and books on international economics, public finance, and economic development.

Born and initially educated in Perth, Professor Garnaut has held a number of influential positions including senior economic adviser to Prime Minister Bob Hawke (1983–85), Australia's ambassador to China (1985–88), chairman of the Primary Industry Bank of Australia (1989–94), and chairman of BankWest (1988–95). In 2008, he produced the Garnaut Climate Change Review for the Australian Government.

He became Chairman of SIMEC ZEN Energy Technologies Pty Ltd in 2015. He resigned as President and Director of SIMEC Zen Energy in May 2019 and became Chairman of Sunshot Energy.
