Local Perth-based international electric violin virtuoso Rupert Guenther will play at Genesis in the Hills Sunset Grooves concert with his Crystal Voyager Band this Saturday 10 December from 5 to 7 pm.
Guests at this outdoor concert under the stars will go on a journey of exotic sounds from the mosques, bamboo forests and temples of central Asia, to the beats and rhythms from African villages and the Middle East, and enjoy listening to an artist who has performed on concert stages around the world for decades - including Vienna, London, Milan, and New York.
"World music sounds really touch peoples' souls. It is so evocative of different lands and times in history. In one concert we can touch into ancient Egypt, China in the time of Lao Tsu, the years and lands of the Crusades, and 19th century middle European gypsy culture," said Rupert, former sideman to the stars such as Beatles producer Sir George Martin, Olivia Newton-John, Demis Roussos, and John Farnham.
“It's a great pleasure to be playing at intimate local venues with musicians of such a high calibre. Both John Wilson (on bass) and Eugene McGrath (on percussion) are highly talented musicians with an international track record. I can rely on them completely.
"Crystal Voyager is a very special band, it's one of those rare bands where we are all so well attuned to each other, we never even need to discuss the music.
“Music really is the international language, because it is the language of feeling. The music in every culture is based on some special feeling, which it connects into. As human beings, those sounds, no matter what culture they come from, we can understand their emotional meaning. And this is what the spirit of these concerts is all about - it's all about inclusivity, learning about each other, understanding each other better."
Rupert is renowned for his amazing electric violin sound, and his concerts are an imaginative journey of ancient, ambient, electronic and world-music influences, in an uplifting and positive experience for audiences of all ages.
Rupert has toured as a solo artist the UK, Europe, the USA and Australia, and has released 27 albums of his own music since 2003.
Now they will perform at Genesis in the Hills while guests enjoy an outdoor concert and tapas.
