Event Details

Far North Queensland has many beautiful coastal locations, and often these are best photographed at sunrise.  This practical workshop will teach you to how to take stunning seascapes with tips and advice from a professional photographer.  Learn the essentials in terms of what equipment you need, the best camera settings and how to compose your shots for creative impact.

The workshop is suited to beginner to intermediate photographers who are interested in expanding their landscape photography skills and increasing their confidence shooting in manual exposure mode.  It's a fun, practical workshop, allowing you to explore the possibilities of shooting seascapes with assistance from a professional photographer.

Numbers are limited to a max of 5 students.

Workshop requirements:

Students should have a digital SLR, hybrid camera or compact camera that allows manual adjustment of exposure (please contact us to check if you're unsure) and a sturdy tripod (though we can hire you one if required).   A basic understanding of photography (ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed) would also be advantageous.  If you have filters such as a circular polarizer and/or neutral density filter, also bring these along.  Students should also have a good pair of walking shoes with plenty of grip that they don't mind getting wet (aqua shoes are a good option).

Some of the topics covered during the workshop:

  •    Camera set-up and settings for photographing seascapes and sunrise
  •    Using manual exposure for landscapes
  •    The use of polarizer and neutral density filters
  •    Long exposure seascapes and motion blur
  •    Compositional techniques, using different lenses and incorporating people in your shots
  •    Creative tips and techniques for seascapes

What to Bring:

  • Camera, lenses and any accessories you have (eg. cable release, circular polarizer, neutral density filter)
  • Camera bag or backpack
  • Memory cards and fully charged batteries
  • Sturdy tripod (we also hire tripods at $10 for the workshop)
  • Head torch or small flashlight
  • Dress comfortable with appropriate footwear (areas can be wet and slippery, so shoes with good grip are essential).
  • Also bring: rain jacket, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen.
