Event description
A free event to help raise awareness for White Ribbon Australia!

About this Event

I’m definitely not someone who would be associated with trekking through the wilderness and I’m not someone who feels comfortable asking for money. But guess what…. I’m about to do both!

Up until recently, I was committed to taking part in the White Ribbon: Cycle for Women and Girls 2020 – Cambodia. Four weeks ago, my 6-month mark on flying out, I received a phone call to inform me that the Cycle that I had been training for was cancelled. Committing to this Ride wasn’t just to raise awareness and support this amazing cause, it’s a personal hurdle as well.

I’m a rather private person and the next few words are the hardest thing I’ve probably admitted too. Just over 2 years ago was probably one of the worst moments of my life and it has only taken the last few months to really get back on track. You never see yourself as a victim. You always see it as your fault. When you can look back, you realise that the abuse, even though emotional not so much physical, was going on for a long time.

The news of the cancellation did affect me, more than I realise and it look a bit of time to really sink in. A cycle will happen, but not just yet.

Instead I decided that I wasn’t going to let that hold me back and in April I will be doing the White Ribbon: Trek for Respect - Kokoda 2020. Not only will it be for White Ribbon, but I can also pay my respects to WWII Veterans on Anzac Day.

For myself and probably for many others, it is hard to admit what happened. This trek symbolises the end of a time that I will never forget but instead of it bringing me down, I’ll use it to build myself back up and try to prevent it from happening to someone else.

I'm inspired by the work of White Ribbon Australia and I want to make a difference.

In April 2020, I will be joining other individuals trekking the Kokoda Trail with Inspired Adventures to raise vital funds for White Ribbon Australia ‘Trek for Respect: Kokoda 2020’.

With every kilometre we cover helps White Ribbon to the start and continue the conversation about domestic violence and raise awareness for the cause. My personal goal is to raise $5000 for this amazing cause. Over the next six months I will be training to prepare myself, both physically and mentally to face this challenging trek.

With new statistics revealing that on average, one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner truly breaks my heart.

As a chef and lover of good food and entertainment, I have decided to throw a free fundraising event that shares that love with my local community.

With numerous discussions with my fellow chefs, it was obvious that getting together to have a beer on a Sunday is getting very difficult to organise. This sparked the idea for a 'Sunday Sesh - for a cause!'

Please join me on Sunday 24th November 2019, between 12 - 6pm for a relaxing afternoon om the terrace at Manuka Oval with Food, Drinks, Music, Art and much more to help me raise aware!ness for White Ribbon Australia.

There will be a Raffle and Silent Auction with all proceeds going directly to White Ribbon Australia.

To show your support - wear white and give a donation at the door!
