Author Dani Colvin will join us for a colourful storytime all about feelings and ways to talk about them. Best suited to children 5 – 7 years and their caregivers, but younger and older siblings and friends are welcome too. We’ll read three picture books, sing, rhyme and finish a craft together that helps children express their feelings using colour.

Dani Colvin is an author, illustrator and former journalist who, for 16 years, wrote a column reviewing children’s literature for The Sunday Tasmanian.

She is a passionate believer in the magic of reading and the power of books to transform children’s lives, so it seemed a natural transition to become a teacher aide and run a primary school library. In these roles, she worked with a startling number of children grappling with daily difficulties and challenges including bullying, grief, disability, financial hardship and family struggles.

She has worked in the not-for profit sector for about 16 years. This includes a decade in fundraising and community engagement at a national organisation that helps children recover from the trauma of abuse, neglect and family violence. Here, she was privileged to share the stories of many children who had never had anyone in their lives who made them feel believed and believed in.

It is these experiences, as well as her own parenthood, that compelled Dani to create a book in which children could find hope and strength and courage and comfort, no matter what private battles they were facing. I Believe In You was created using her dad Eric’s old watercolour paints, so he, like her two sons, is on every page.

Dani lives in Lutruwita/Tasmania with her husband, Ian, and their 4WD campervan, Brian.
