Course 1-

4:00-5:30pm- Family Skills training for couples and parents - Run by His Emincence Sheikh Mansour Leghaei - Founder of the Ehawza (Webcast from the IR Iran).

Course 2-

5:30-7:00pm - The History & Philosophy of Marjaiyyah - Run by His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Saeed Bahmanpour- Deputy of Research - Islamic Centre of England, Senior Lecturer, Islamic College London (Webcast- From the UK)

This course will try to cover and answer some pressing questions related to the topic of ijtihad and taqlid. It begins with the philosophy of ijtihad and taqlid based on the Quran, hadith, and rational judgment. This is followed by a historical examination of the development of this idea in Shi’i religious practice among the clergy and laity leading to the modern idea of marja’iyyah. After expounding the idea of ijtihad and taqlid, the views of its opponents will be discussed and examined and other alternatives suggested to replace it in religious practice will be explored. Furthermore, modern developments of the concept of marja’iyyah expressed in the theory of wilayat al-faqih will be investigated.

Course 3-

7:00-8:30pm - Building up your spiritual body - Run by His Eminence Sheikh Mohammed Ali Ismail (LIVE- In person!) Head of research and Publications, Islamic College London.
A highlight of this course is the ‘Five Step Practical Program for Spiritual Development’, which the convener has taught to many classes in different parts of the world. Furthermore, this course will provide practical knowledge and skills on Islamic anger management; strengthening our connection with our Living Imam; the A B C of contemplation over the Holy Qur’an; as well as striking a balance between the spiritual life and the material life. This course is grounded in the course convener’s 17 years of experience in teaching and lecturing on spirituality.

This will be followed by salaat, refreshments/dinner and informal Q&A/discussions with the visiting A'alim.

The culmination will be a NYE spiritual session at the Imam Husain Islamic Centre starting at 8:30 with Salaat extending to midnight (activities involving a special Q&A program with all speakers, Duas, practical training on salaat layl and other a'maal, a BBQ and activities for youth and children).

Having graduated from the Hawza in 2007, he went on to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Portsmouth.

Shaykh Mohammed Ali then moved to Damascus, Syria where, for two years he taught and trained aspiring Ministers of Religion at the Islamic Institute for Post Graduate Studies. Sheikh Mohammad Saeed Bahmanpour:

Sheikh Mohammad Saeed Bahmanpourstudied sociology at the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE), and at the Tabatabai University of Tehran, at which he obtained a masters degree. His interest in sociology was not an intrinsic interest but to answer a call from within to know more about religions. That call eventually took charge of his life and directed him to study religion proper in the Tehran and Qum seminaries and to assume clerical duties.

In 1999 he was invited to Cambridge University to teach as a visiting lecturer in the Faculty of Oriental Studies. Later he was appointed as the principal of The Islamic College in London which has both seminary and university degrees on its educational programs. He held that post for four years. He has taught Islamic studies both in seminary and university courses for a lengthy time before, during, and after his post at The Islamic College.

His main fields of interest are theology, Islamic mysticism, and Qur'anic sciences and exegeses, including its history and compilation. Currently, he is the director of inter-faith relations at the Islamic Centre of England.

He is also interested in the history of Jesus and Mary from an Islamic perspective, and has written a screenplay about the life of Mary based on the Islamic sources, which was made into a successful movie. Another of his works on Christian history was the screenplay about The Seven Sleepers of the Cave (Ashab al-Kahf). He has authored several books including Muslim Identity in the 21st Century, ed. (2001), The Idols Will Fall (2010), The Blessed Tree: The Life and Times of Fatima Daughter of Muhammad (2011) and Towards Eternal Life (2015).
