SPECIALTY CLASSES AND WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

Dance workshops are open to all levels and styles over the summer break. Try something new, revise something old, or just come along to move and have some fun.

TUESDAY 6.15PM-7.15PM BELLY BARRE - WEEK 1-4 (January 8th-29th)
STUDIO 2 $65 for 4 x weeks or $20 per casual class where vacancies exist.
This class has been developed specifically for anyone who would like to strengthen, tone and make their body more supple for dancing.
We will be working through a regular barre style repertoire fusing Pilates, Yoga and Ballet conditioning exercises with bellydance specific movements and stretches.
We will finish each class with a deep stretch and relaxation. **8 places only.**

TUESDAY - TRIBAL DRILLS AND SKILLS 7.30pm-8.30pm $20 per class or $65 for 4 x weeks

WEEK 1 8th January - ATS FOUNDATIONS (Beginners to Advanced) 7.30pm-8.30pm $20
This mini workshop will review ATS posture, arm lines, and body positioning to ensure consistency in movement, clear sight lines, and strong cues. We will cover basic movements used in slow and fast chorus lines, as well as working on smooth transitions.

WEEK 2 15th January - ZILLS SKILLS (Beginners to Advanced) 7.30pm-8.30pm $20
This mini workshop will review basic finger cymbal (zills/sagat) technique and patterns. We will be drilling continuous, triplets, baladi, military and other accented rhythms for fast tribal, as well as practicing call and response drills, chorus line drills, and working with different movement combinations. Although we will be using primarily ATS movements, anyone interested in developing some zills skills, or at least learning about or strengthening their playing technique is welcome to attend.

WEEK 3 22nd January - DRUM DANCE JAM (Beginners to Advanced) 7.30pm-8.30pm $20
Have you always wanted to learn how to drum, or how to recognise and play basic rhythms and patterns? This workshop is open to any students who would like to learn how to make their own music for dancing, or would like to practice their drumming technique. We will work with playing a slow Masmoudi (with variations or more experienced drummers), and then a basic Maqsoum rhythm (the fast version of Masmoudi) for the second half of the workshop. Tribal dancers of all levels are invited to attend to practice their improvisation.

WEEK 4 29th January - RUBY DATURA ATS INSPIRED COMBINATIONS (Experienced to Advanced only) 7.30pm-8.30pm $20
This mini workshop will serve as an introduction to some fun and complex Ruby Datura combinations. Ruby Datura is the professional troupe from Cinnabar Red in SA. These combinations were shared for public use at the Australian Tribal & Trance Festival. Students who attend the workshop with Ruby Datura are welcome to attend for half price.

WEEK 2 16th January- SPINNING AND TURNING (Beyond Beginners to Experienced) $30
This workshop will drill spinning and turning techniques for fast direction changes and dynamic movements and transitions. We will be working through posture and arm lines, spotting techniques, footwork, focus, entries and exits, as well as travelling. Participants will have the opportunity to work on single, double or quadruple spins, spirals, flipping and continuous turns, paddle turns, forward and reverse arabesque turns, and flip turn techniques. If you are worried about getting dizzy, we will also cover some basic techniques to alleviate dizziness when spinning.

WEEK 3 23rd January - ORIENTAL TRIBAL FUSION MASH UP (Beginner to Experienced) $30
This workshop takes you inside the primary differences between Oriental, Tribal and Fusion technique, including the main differences in body posture, arm lines and movement stylisation. If you are a little confused with what the difference is, would like to learn different interpretations of similar movements, or just want a great taster of the different styles and branches of bellydance, this workshop is for you.
We will be looking at the differences between camels, undulations and bodywaves, hip and chest circles, body positioning and transitions, footwork, and basic combinations. In the last half hour we will have some fun with fusing oriental sequences with tribal stying, and ‘orientalising’ and ‘fusing’ tribal combinations.
